We spoke with Orlando campus director—and Rasmussen University graduate—Sharon Richardson and asked her to highlight important information every newcomer needs to know before stepping foot on the Rasmussen University – Orlando campus.

What is the history of the Orlando campus?

Since 1900, Rasmussen University has been building community through education. Fromfirst opening its doors as the Rasmussen Practical School of Businessin Stillwater, Minnesota, Rasmussen University has since grown to 23 campuses and has helped thousands of students change their lives through education. The University now offers dozens of programs across the Schools of Business, Design, Education, Health Sciences, Justice Studies, Nursing and Technology.

The Orlando campus opened to the public in November 2018, joining five other Florida campuses in providing Certificates, Diplomas and Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

Rasmussen University president, Dr. Trenda Boyum-Breen, believes this new campus will train capable healthcare professionals to help meet Florida’s demand. “Over the years, we’ve seen the demand for healthcare and nursing professionals grow, especially in Florida. Our new campus gives us an opportunity to better serve these students and prepare them for working in today’s complex healthcare environments.”

Where is the Orlando campus located?

Students at the Orlando campus have the option to enroll in any of Rasmussen University’sonline programs. While many of these programs can conveniently be completed entirely online, students will still have a home base of support from the Orlando’s campus services. These programs include options in the Schools of Business, Justice Studies, Education, Health Sciences, Technology, Design and Nursing.

What resources and support services are offered at the Orlando campus?

The Orlando campus offers excellent facilities in a cozy space— including classrooms, a computer lab, and a learning and collaboration space. This campus also houses simulation equipment in the campus’ four labs for health sciences students.

Though the space is great, the people are what make the campus unique. Richardson says that the Rasmussen University faculty truly understand the school’s culture and always put their students first. The campus is a great place to interact with the professors, get to know fellow students and knock out some homework in a supportive environment.

How is the Orlando campus involved in the local community?

By setting students up for success, the Orlando campus is bettering the community as a whole—but that’s not the only impact they have on the community. The campus hosts fun events to bring prospective and current student to the campus and get to know the community.

The campus has also partnered with theMental Health Association of Central Florida. They raised awareness for the organization’s vital services by walking with the organization’s representatives in the City of Orlando’s Veterans Day Parade.

Additionally, the campus staff and faculty participate in other various community events in order to get to know and interact with the Orlando community as a whole—with other opportunities to give back and get involved surely on the horizon.
